Rheumatism is defined as any of various conditions characterised by inflammation or pain in muscles, joints or fibrous tissue.
Articular rheumatism is due to inflammation or degeneration of joints leading to pain in elbow joints, shoulder joints etc. which are labeled as rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, tennis elbow, frozen shoulder etc.
Arthritis is an inflammation of joints due to infectious, metabolic, or constitutional causes. Joint pain, stiffness and swelling are the most common symptoms. There may be reduction in the range of motion, redness on the joint, with symptoms worse in morning in many cases.

- Rheumatoid arthritis: It affects joints of both sides, resulting in inflammation of the joints due to an auto-immune pathology.
